Costs of Charging Electric Vehicles

Have you been thinking about what vehicle you would purchase next? Electric cars or EV’s have become an increasingly popular option for many consumers. The cost of charging your EV should be a significant deciding factor for consumers.

Electric vehicles cost, on average less than half as much to operate compared to traditional combustion engine vehicles. According to Energysage.com, “The average cost to operate an EV in the United States is $485 per year, while the average for a gasoline-powered vehicle is $1,117.” General Motors estimates the annual energy use of the Chevy Volt is about 2,520 kilowatt-hours. If GM’s estimate is correct, the Volt uses less energy than an average water heater or air conditioner.

Deciding to buy a new vehicle can be a complicated process! Especially if it begins to affect how your home will run. Great news if you are thinking about making the switch to an all electric-vehicle not only will you reduce your carbon footprint, but it won’t make your electricity bill go through the roof!
